Our History

Our experience with environmentally sustainable farming had its humble beginnings in early 1900’s when our grandfather ploughed a small area converted bush land to plant paddy (rice) in the pristine town of Wayanad, nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats.

Our grandfather Shri. Ananthanarayanan was born in the town of Palakad, Kerala in South India. At the young age of 16 he left home at Palakad in search of a livelihood. His wanderings brought him to Wayanad. The green and pristine, enchanting land captivated him. He used his meager savings to buy a small parcel of bush land and tried his hands on farming. He first started growing paddy and tapioca. With lofty ambitions, perseverance and hard work, our grandfather expanded his farmland. He planted areca nut, mango and jack fruit trees on his farm eventually venturing out to pant coffee. Our first batch of coffee was harvested in 1922. The initial success of coffee cultivation inspired our grandfather to develop more plantations during the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Our grandfather believed in the benefits of traditional growing techniques in extending the fertility of the land. He believed in giving back to the society and the town that helped him earn his livelihood by building roads and an elementary school in Wayanad.

He dedicated majority of his life to coffee cultivation but also contributed his bit to the society by building local village roads and school in his local community. He also served the community and practiced as Homeopathic Doctor. From a humble beginning of a few acres the Estate was built over time and over generation it continues to ensure traditional growing techniques and coffee is cultivated admist a natural habitat.
